Release of the FFO Seminar Recording: "Release of the FFO Seminar Recording: "FFO Seminar: How To Become A Competitive Fencer"
June 17, 2024
On June 15, 2024, the Fair Fencing Organization (FFO) proudly hosted another public seminar titled "FFO Seminar: Saber Rules & Techniques Explained." The seminar featured a presentation by Mr. Lincoln Wang, a USA Fencing referee, active coach, and Saber fencer. FFO has previously organized seminars on tournament preparation with Foil coach and Olympic referee Mr. Yuanjing Wang, and on becoming a competitive fencer with USA National Epee coach Mr. Andrey Geva. This seminar focused on understanding referee calls based on Saber rules and adaptive fencing strategy on strip. Mr. Lincoln Wang is a respected figure in the fencing community, serving as an invited Saber commentator for Science Fencing specials.

During his presentation, Mr. Wang analyzed dozens of videos in slow motion and with highlights, summarizing seven major points across 23 key bullet points for the audience. Subsequently, he provided important information for parents regarding supporting their children in tournaments and illustrated various inappropriate behaviors that could lead to penalty cards. Of utmost importance, he explained the professional and respectful manner in which to respond if a penalty card is received, from the perspective of referees. Additionally, Mr. Wang offered strategic fencing advice and tips on enhancing Saber fencing skills.

This seminar was conducted in Chinese, and due to the numerous positive feedback and expressions of gratitude for Mr. Wang’s dedicated and comprehensive presentation, FFO is considering holding a similar seminar in English in the near future. FFO consistently encourages its members to fully respect referees on and off strip, engage in professional communication from both sides, and take advantage of various learning opportunities like this seminar.
